Are artificial plants sustainable?

Artificial plants and flowers are sustainable products. Generally, artificial plants are more sustainable than real plants or flowers, due to the following reasons:

  1. Longer lifespan:
Our artificial plants can last for 8 to 15 years, with minimal maintenance or care. Real plants require regular watering, feeding, and care. Artificial plants need replacing less frequently, reducing the overall environmental impact.
  2. No water needed:
Even when dusting our artificial plants, we recommend doing so without water or with a lightly damp cloth. Since artificial plants don't require water, they help save water, which is especially crucial in dry climates or areas with water scarcity issues. Consider also the water-intensive process of growing real plants, often done abroad.
  3. No pesticides or chemicals:
Growing real plants may involve the use of pesticides and chemicals to combat pests and diseases. Artificial plants don't require such treatments, reducing exposure to harmful substances.
  4. Waste reduction:
Since artificial plants don't wilt or die, they don't produce green waste that needs to be disposed of. This contributes to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.

Overall, while there is some impact in the production of artificial plants, such as the use of materials and energy, the eco-footprint of a silk flower or a plastic artificial plant that lasts for years is incomparable to the environmental burden of the same item in its fresh/natural version. Especially when the artificial version is handled very carefully.
